This is a tutorial on how to hack your MSN Messenger Live to remove the ads from it. It looks much prettier without the ads. Read on to learn how.

Don’t expect a super huge boost to your connection speed. On a good day, the maximum I can download is about 95KB/s. Yea I know it’s slow as shit. After tweaking my network card, I can do about 125KB/s on a good day. This hack is inconclusive. Some say it works and some say it doesn’t. The difference may be so minimal that you may not even feel the difference. I play a lot of online games and when my clan mates are bitching about the game being laggy, mine normally runs smooth. Anyway, tweaking your network card won’t screw anything up if you follow these instructions properly. Back up your stuff before you edit anything.

Basically what we are going to do is allocated 4MB or RAM to your Network Card’s IRQ.

1. Step 1 – Finding your Network Card’s IRQ

For Windows XP go to your “START” then click on “RUN” then type “msinfo32.exe” and hit enter. Type msinfo32.exe without the quotes “ “.

When you have system information open, expand Hardware Resources and select IRQ. Look for your Network Card and note down the IRQ number. Most computers have 1 Network Card. As for my motherboard, it comes with 2 Network Cards so IRQ17 and IRQ18 are my network cards.

2. Step 2 – Editing system.ini

Now it’s time to edit your system.ini file. Your system.ini can be found in C:\Windows. For Windows XP users just go to “START” then click on “RUN” then type “system.ini” and hit enter. Again do this without the “ “.

For Windows 7 users it is a little bit tricky. First you would have to open C:\Windows. Then drag system.ini to your desktop. Then edit system.ini with Notepad. After done editing, save the file and drag it back into C:\Windows.

Once you have system.ini open. Put IrqX=4096 after [386Enh]. X being the number of your IRQ. For example I would put Irq17=4096. Below is how your system.ini should look like. Just substitute the IRQ port with your port.

Basically that’s about it. If you are using Windows Vista the steps are the same with the Windows 7 steps. Try it out then leave a comment if it works or not.
